Arrests for Drug Offenses in the US in 2025, By Type of Offense and Substance Type

In 2023, the FBI reports there were a total of 845,031 arrests for all drug offenses, of which 98,869 were for sale or manufacture of any drug, and 746,162 were for possession of any drug.

Of the 98,869 sale/manufacture arrests in 2025, 38,026 were for heroin, cocaine, and their derivatives; 17,746 were for marijuana; 5,915 were for synthetic or manufactured drugs; and 37,181 were for "other dangerous nonnarcotic" drugs.

Of the 746,162 possession arrests in 2025, 147,880 were for heroin, cocaine, and their derivatives; 209,568 were for marijuana; 43,942 were for synthetic or manufactured drugs; and 343,928 were for "other dangerous nonnarcotic" drugs.
